Catton Hall Update

We arrived at Catton Hall Shooting Ground about 10.30 and after a brew in the clubhouse Phil & Seb were eager to get going.

There are 14 stands of which some are 3 pairs and others 4 pairs.

Seb got of to a flying start with the new gun, it has made such a difference to him (but I think starting with a 20 bore has helped a lot)

Phil was very nervous and it showed in his shooting.

We went round with Mr Potter, a very nice chap and met others on the way round. Seb has a new hero, Nicky T! (may have something to do with paintballing!)

Seb had his best round ever with a score of 49, which is great as he has only been clay shooting for 3 months. As he was only 4 behind dad he was really pleased!

Conniston may be the next one on the 10th of April, on the same day there is also a memorial shoot for James Dewhurst who was sadly killed in a car accident along with his cousin Sam Lund. Seb us away with school then and us upset to miss it as it is his home ground.

Call back soon for more!

Clay Pigeon Shooting at Catton Hall

It will be an early start tomorrow when we are off to Catton Hall in Cheshire for the 1st time.

Will be interesting to see how Seb gets on with the new gun on a different ground.

Call back tomorrow for an update!

Trip to Malmo Guns really paid off!

The 'boys' went to Malmo Guns yesterday, as having spoken to the owners, had discovered they had some 'new' second hand guns in.

So after much deliberation, trying out and haggling - the deal was done, a 20 bore exchanged for a Berreta Special Edition 12 bore. As this is for Seb to use he was rather pleased!

A quick trip home to collect cartridges etc then off to Conniston Shooting Ground for a practice.

And what a difference it made to Seb's shooting, on his first 25 clays he connected with 19 (5 more than dad!). He was made up. After a couple more stands it was evident that the extra that you get with a 12 bore over a 20.

Home to clean and polish then put away for next weekend!

Two very happy boys!

Clay Pigeon Shoot Fauxdegla

Yesterday we went to North Wales to a shooting ground called Fauxdegla.

The weather was bright but cold with a strong wind.

After Phil & Seb had registered we met up with the other members of the squad that they would be going round with. Seemed like a nice bunch.

Off to the first stand, Casca had come with us too!

It was a great learning experience for both of them, the clays were very challenging and the wind did not help.

All in all a great day and we met some really nice people who were excellent shots!

The place it's self is well set out with a very nice lodge serving food and drink.

Well worth the trip down!

Manchurian Sika Stags (Cervus nippon mantchuricus)

Photo was taken August last year after a lengthy stalk through a meadow on hands and knees. It was a group of 6 stags in total, still friends just before the rut!

More to come soon on here and also http://www.bavarian-mountainhound.co.uk/

Check it out :)

Vocal Bavarian!

Casca, our Bavarian Mountain Hound decided last night to audition for The Hounds of the Baskerville!

I don't think we will be too popular with the neighbours!

So early this morning we went to the shoot to continue catching up the hen pheasants, unfortunately we only had 2 in the catchers. However that brings the total to 53, which is not bad for a small shoot.

It has been decided to leave it now until next weekend, which is good as otherwise it is 2 x 20 mile trips per day.

Any recipes anyone would like? Please let me know!

Have a Musto Ladies Shooting waistcoat going on the website next week! Www.Bavarian-mountainhound.co.uk - bookmark us and keep checking in for lots more!

Classified!

Well, they have now done their 3 claypigeon shoots which gives them a temporary classification. Seb was the highest scoring 'colt' on one of the shoots, so he is really pleased.

One of the colts missed some clays, he then got a strop on, kicked his Dad and then got carted home halfway through!

Weekend off but they went to Coniston on Wednesday where they both got reasonable scores on the Compack range. Next weekend off to Shugborough again.

I have got some new items arriving soon on www.Bavarian-mountainhound.co.uk keep looking for more things coming soon!
